Paleo Fat Blast Meal Plans
[Downloadable PDF]

Our Rating: ★★★★☆ This book, or series of books really, is a little different from what we’ve reviewed in the past. Instead of being first and foremost a collection of recipes, these PDF’s lay out a very specific six-week meal plan for paleo practitioners. There are separate paleo meal plans for men and women, and a detailed weekly shopping list that sets you up with everything you need to execute the plan. The emphasis here seems to be on simple, easy-to-prepare recipes. Each day includes a breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two paleo snacks. I loved the variety of the offerings – only a handful of them are repeated over the course of 6 weeks. Each recipe is accompanied by a color picture, but the recipes themselves are a little short on details and are often just a list of ingredients and then a sentence or two of explanation. Extras include a short book on the paleo diet and athletes, audio of a weight loss teleconference, and another e-book on the Top 3 Secrets to Successful Weight Loss. These books will appeal to you if you’re looking for a simple, comprehensive plan that lays it all out for you. Click HERE to go to the website »

The Paleo Recipe Book

Our Rating: ★★★★★
The Paleo Recipe Book is easily the best downloadable paleo cookbook we’ve reviewed so far. You get over 370 recipes in a PDF that boasts the production values of a hardcover book. Featuring a thoughtful forward, a detailed table of contents, conversion tables, a doneness temperature chart, a list of good fats (those can be hard to keep straight), instructions on how to make ghee, and much much more, this book is beautifully laid out with solid photography and step-by-step instructions. The recipes were excellent and varied and included many we hadn’t seen in any other primal cookbooks – bacon wrapped chicken legs with pork stuffing, and homemade sauerkraut to name just two. The publishers also include an additional cookbook with 30 more recipes, a meal plan book and an herb and spice guide. For only $27, this one is a must buy for all practitioners of the paleo diet, both new and old. Click HERE to go to the website »

Paleo Diet Smoothies Cookbook
[Downloadable PDF]

Our Rating: ★★★½☆
If, like me, you’re easily bored with repeatedly eating the same primal recipes, then smoothies offer an easy, fun alternative to spice up your culinary life. There’s plenty of variety here as the recipes range from the very simple to the extremely unique (brussel sprouts and blueberries were surprisingly good together) and include both sweet and savory options. Categories include brain function, green, protein, energy, unique, paleo breakfast smoothies, meal replacement smoothies, and post workout smoothies. The publishers throw in a number of extras as well, including six additional PDFs (with topics like the glycemic index, phytonutrients, and alkalinizing foods) which helps to offset the price. It’s a fun and useful primal cookbook but you’ll probably only need it if you’re a paleo diet enthusiast. Click HERE to go to the website »

Paleo Cookbooks Collection
[2 Downloadable PDFs]

Our Rating: ★★★☆☆
Nikki Young offers a large number of primal recipes in these two paleo cookbooks bundled together for one price. There are over 150 recipes in each book covering almost every conceivable category of food, including special sections on chocolate, noodle dishes, and breakfast recipes. The large number of snack ideas and the paleo breakfast recipes were particularly helpful to me as I love both and tend to get bored easily with the same things over and over. Nikki also throws in a neat 30-day meal plan calendar stocked with 125 recipes from the books to help get you started. The meal plan includes alot of color photographs. That books themselves are somewhat bare bones, lacking photography and much content outside of the recipes. The main issue here is obviously the price, but you are getting quite a few recipes. If you’re serious about the paleo diet, you’ll appreciate the variety of primal recipes that these books offer. Click HERE to go to the website »

The Primal Blueprint Cookbook
[Hardcover Book]

Our Rating: ★★★★½
One of the best paleo cookbooks on the market. The recipes are easy to follow and uniformly delicious. The photography is probably the best of any primal cookbook we’ve seen. There’s also a good deal of information outside of the recipes, including how to source primal ingredients, how to stock your pantry, and what kind of equipment you should have in the kitchen. The only downside is the actual number of recipes. For the price, we’d like to see more. My favorite section is the “Primal Substitute” area where you can make primal recipes that are alternatives to popular carb-laden dishes. Making enchiladas with egg white crepes was easier than I thought it would be and they turned out great. Favorite recipes of ours were “Shrimp Cakes with Spinach Slaw” and “Tomatoes Stuffed with Ground Bison and Eggs”. If you’re just starting out with paleo cooking, this book is a must have.
